The most significant difference between myself and my opponent for the office of Township Clerk is measured by proven accomplishments and experience. Why did the Township Board fire my opponent after less than eight (8) months and $26,000? The minutes state: “to cease Kathleen McDonald’s bookkeeping services effective 11/26/2002”. How can she explain being fired for insufficient progress in preparing the books for an audit? In comparison, I challenged the Board’s attempt to interfere with the Clerk’s performance of the bookkeeping duties. After two years of presenting the facts to the Board, the Clerk’s office took the Board to court, won the lawsuit and restored the bookkeeping, saving over $50,000 per year. Since the Clerk’s office brought the bookkeeping in-house, we’ve saved over $91,000. When you subtract the cost of the lawsuit of $11,171, the savings covers the cost of two (2) extra dust control applications on all our dirt roads which is a very important traffic safety and agricultural economic issue in our area. I promise to continue to work for effective budget management.
In just a few words, I need to explain that there is a strong difference between what “We” represent and what our opponents represent. You, the citizens, have clearly stated your desire to protect the rural character of Augusta Township and your chosen lifestyle. I have strongly supported that idea as a member of the Planning Commission since 1980. Our opponents have repeatedly aligned themselves with developers and growth, and meet secretly without Board knowledge. This growth provides nothing for you except more taxes, congestion and the collapse of everything important to your daily lives. In the past 4 years they have approved, with 4 votes to 3, sweetheart deals that commit you to $3 million dollars debt, and another $2 million dollars in losses in the Utility Department. This is nearly $3000 per household that you now owe. They strongly argue for a Water Master Plan that would cost another $13 million dollars to provide municipal water service benefiting only future developers in the southwest corner of the Township. Nothing for you, and no way to pay for it. In the next few days you will be bombarded with misinformation. I usually call them lies. A few weeks ago, I was accused at a Board meeting by Mike King, with Supervisor Jackson's help, of falsifying the minutes of the Board meetings on the Township website. This has now been proven to be positively false and vindictive. This is your chance for an Augusta Township Board working FOR YOU. Please cast your vote for Giszczak, Tobler, Sherbine and McGehee.
Be sure to fill in the oval to make your vote count! I Will Work To: Protect the rural character of Augusta Township as stated in the Master Plan. Work cooperatively and professionally with all members of the Board of Trustees to conduct the business of the township effectively, efficiently and focused on township business. Be respectful of the public’s right for open transparent government which does not waste the public’s time, money or energy. Develop written Board policies for managing township business which provide proper checks and balances between the Clerk’s office and the Treasurer’s office. Bring the Treasurer’s Cash Records up to date so that Township bank accounts, cash resources and investments are accurate, current and balanced to the general ledger accounting system. |
